Some time ago I used the latest version of Pack File Manager to try and create a new mod for Total War: Warhammer. All I did was picking some files from the existing data packs through the usual guided procedure (it was the Language.Pack, but I know for a fact this happens with any file), and saving the mod. Whenever my mod is among the game files, the Mods Menu included in the game launcher will crash whenever I click on any mod, even the ones from the Workshop. This means I have no way to turn on/off any mod I install, or try out mine. I can fix the issue by completely deleting my mod from the game files, but right now File Pack Manager is basically completely broken and useless as a mod creating tool. Yeah we've been chasing crashes like this for a while now and are baffled. I've been spending several hours with Radious and we have almost no idea what's going on.

He suspected it was due to certain files which reliably crashed the game for him if he included them in a pack, but that didn't happen for me. It also didn't crash his game when he used the ones I created and sent him.

So really, we need more data on the exact circumstances this happens, but it's so fuzzy I don't even know what to ask for. This is what I'm doing: - Open Pack File Manager 4.0 (set to work with TW: Warhammer) - 'Files My mods New' - Doesn't seem to make any difference where I save the file. A.pack file with the same name and contents is also put in the 'data' folder of the game - Import any file from any existing data.pack - Save and close Pack File Manager - Open game launcher - Go to 'mods manager' - Click on the square of any mod installed (my mod is also listed), and the launcher crashes Yeah if it were this simple we'd have tracked it down by now These exact steps works really reliably for me. Import any file from any existing data.pack How do you import? 'File-From Pack'? Or first extract db file, 'Add-File(s)'? Also, note that PFM 4.0 isn't the very latest version - although 4.1 only changes the ESF handling and fixes 'MyMods-Install'. All I can really think of at this point CA looking at a crashdump along with the mod pack that caused it - they can look into what the game actually has a problem with. I can't even reproduce the crashes and have no idea what might be causing them - PFM opens all those packs fine. How do you import?

If I try to 'install', an error prompt appears. I'm sorry if I can't be incredibly precise, but I'm not a modder, this is the first time I try and do something for a Total War game. I'm doing nothing, this happens automatically. No no no, that doesn't happen automatically. PFM saves the pack where you tell it to, and nowhere else. Maybe you copied the pack there before, and now it crashes the game while you think it's your new Mod. You should remove all mod packs from your data directory and add them one by one to see which one causes the crash. It's very possible that this is due to an incompatability between mods, so if you're already playing a modded game, it might be a mod you subscribed from Workshop causing the issue.

You should remove all mod packs from your data directory and add them one by one to see which one causes the crash. That's what seemed to happen actually. I completely empied the game folder of all non-official packs and I saved my mod in another disk entirely, yet it still popped up in the data folder on its own. Yes, that's a bug in 4.0. If you update to 4.1, it should be fixed.

I have installed v. 4.1, now it won't even let me create a new mod file. I can add files from a pack, but if I click 'Files My mods New' after giving it a name an error prompt simply appears telling me some gibberish (it is a Windows error, saying a value is null). I am running it as Admin. It's pretty obvious I don't have the knowledge to mess with this software and come up with useful information as of now, being it bugged or not.

I'll let the developers patch the game and its tools a couple more times, and then try and use it again. No no no, that doesn't happen automatically.

I completely empied the game folder of all non-official packs and I saved my mod in another disk entirely, yet it still popped up in the data folder on its own. The only reason I can imagine for this is that when you created the MyMod in the first place, you gave the data folder as its working directory - that will result in it being saved there. Other than that, I can't think of what's happening. I think you can open a Windows Explorer at that path from within PFM's MyMods menu to verify. It's very possible that this is due to an incompatability between mods, so if you're already playing a modded game, it might be a mod you subscribed from Workshop causing the issue.

I'm playing with no mods installed. I only downloaded a small camera mod (the most famous one) to see if it was only my mod that made the launcher crash, and it wasn't. Are you saying that your game also crashes when you only install that single Workshop mod? Because then something else got messed up in your setup somehow.
